Packaging Design Solutions has been developed to provide information and assistance for people in businesses who sell packed products in a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.
Typically this includes supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware outlets, specialty stores, liquor outlets and department stores, but the information here is relevant for anyone who needs to put their product in a package that will attract and communicate to customers.

This website has been developed by Ned Coten, Managing Director of Acorn Brand Design.
Acorn is a packaging and branding agency based in Melbourne Australia, working with a range of clients from Multinational companies right down to startup businesses operating from the kitchen table.
The information contained here has been developed from Ned's experience in packaging and branding over the past 7 years, in addition to his prior experience in marketing and business management.
By providing relevant and useful information
to brand managers and custodians, we hope to increase the awareness of
the value of strong, strategic packaging design for increased sales and
brand awareness.
You can see some of the work Acorn has done here.
Unlike many businesses involved with packaging design and branding, our focus is on developing solutions that consumers will buy! A lot of packaging is designed to look good, but that doesn't mean it will be effective and lead to a sale…
SIDENOTE - Communication counts!
While
it is important for packaging to be visually appealing, it is critical
that the pack communicates the right message to the consumer and entices
them to take it off the shelf. Just like in real life…
...good looks are important but its how you sell yourself that counts!
As Thomas Watson, the famous founder of IBM said… "Nothing happens until someone sells something!"
Packaging that looks good but doesn't sell is a waste of time and resources - this website will help you avoid that outcome.
To do this well, we believe in a strategic approach to packaging design. This means ensuring a thorough understanding of the brand itself, the product being packaged, the target market (those who you want to buy the finished SKU) and the selling environment. Here are some good examples of how a well considered, strategic approach, has lead to increased sales.
Our experience has taught us that this first stage of the packaging design process - thinking about the foundations the brand is built on - are the most important. To do this well requires skill and experience. We can't 'give you the experience', but we can tell you about ours, help you develop the skills you need and explain the 'tricks of the trade' so you know as much as possible.
